Having a battery in your CNC controller allows the parameters, PAL, and programs to be stored in the event of a power outage or while the machine is powered off. If you ever see a “battery low” light, do not turn off the controller until the battery is changed, or you could lose all the machine settings.
Here are some guidelines pertaining to backup batteries
- Replace the batteries every 3 to 5 years.
- Only use a similar, appropriate battery pack. Never use regular “alkaline” batteries.
- NiCad batteries often come uncharged from the store. Be certain to charge yours before installation.
- Always change the batteries with the controller on.
If your battery pack is proprietary, CNC Parts Dept can supply a replacement or make a recommendation.
